The Minister of Defense believes that the head of the SCM is disconnected from the realities of Romania. “It seems that he does not understand how much money people live.”

Ionuţ Măiţanu, the Minister of National Defense, criticized, on Sunday, the statements made by Elena Costache, the president of the Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM), who stated that, in her opinion, a pension of 11,000 lei is small.

Mieanu believes that the head of the SCM “is totally decoupled“From”Romania's realities“He stated, at Digi24, that the imbalance regarding the service pensions was created by the politicians, because”The state had a promise for each of the people who gave up some benefits”.

I do not agree with the way in which it is totally disconnected by the realities of Romania. It seems that he does not understand how much money people live. And, as an idea, the pension in the judiciary is somewhere at 25,000 lei, in the military system it is somewhere at 5,300 lei and in the general pension system I think that at 2,700 lei. That's how things look like”, Stated Ionuţ Măiţanu.

Elena Costache, head of the SCM, said that she will not accept the cutting package proposed by Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan and supported by President Nicuşor Dan, according to which the retirement age will increase to 65 years, and the pension will be 70% of the net salary of the magistrate. She said that a pension of 11,000 lei, as much as a judge would take, is a small pension and that the independence of the magistrates depends on the money.

The Minister of Defense, about the number of those who could leave the military system

The Minister of National Defense also stated that there are, in the Romanian force system, thousands of employees who meet the retirement conditions. He says that any discussion about the military service pensions can only take place with the consultation of those directly affected by possible decisions.

We have, at this moment, an army that works, is respected and any change will have to be made with them at the table, so that we make sure that those who are in the system now remain in the system and are motivated to remain beyond the possibility they would have tomorrow. There are several thousand people who may come out of the system tomorrow and cause absolutely major imbalances”, Said Mori.

Asked what is the number of those who could leave the military system, the minister replied: “I have an exact figure, it is not a public figure at the moment”.

I tell you, as a perspective, what could happen. So, if we do not create a perspective for those who are in the system at the moment – and this is valid, I speak of the MApN and May – there are experienced people, somehow at the end of the career, who worked on NATO missions, in international missions, who could go out tomorrow. And they are still here and work. I work, teach the youngest, contribute to the partnerships we have with our allies and our partners. And what do we do with their experience? If these people leave, and they could leave tomorrow, it will take many years …“He added.
