China states that Trump's “Golden Dome” missile defense plan increases the risk that “space will become a battlefield”

The ambitions of the Trump administration to build an advanced missile defense system, nicknamed “Golden Dome” (“golden dome”), reappeared the old fears about an accelerated militarization of the cosmic space. China reacted hard, warning that the plan of Washington “encourages a race” and could turn the Earth's orbit into a new military confrontation theater, writes .cbsnews.com.

The official announcement came from the White House on Tuesday, when President Donald Trump said the technological architecture of the system was already “officially selected”, and the budget package in the Congress provides initial financing of $ 25 billion.
On paper, “Golden Dome” is designed to protect the American territory against growing ballistic threats. But for Beijing, the signal is clear: such a project has “obvious offensive implications” and disrupts the global strategic balance.
The space, the next front line?
In a statement made Wednesday at the ordinary briefing of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, the spokesman Mao Ning accused Washington of a dangerous obsession for absolute security, to the detriment of collective stability.
“The United States, under the pretext of an America First Policy, follows a unilateral security that compromises the safety of other nations. The result? A destabilization of the global strategic balance,” said the Chinese official.
Beijing warns that the “Golden Dome” project feeds a dangerous arming spiral and could directly lead to the conversion of cosmic space into an area of conflict.
From the shield, to the offensive?
In parallel, a recent evaluation of the US Defense Intelligence Agency shows that ballistic threats will grow in “scale and complexity” in the next decade, with express reference to developments in China and Russia. It is mentioned including the successful tests of North Korea and the possible ballistic capacities of Iran by 2035.
But while the Pentagon talks about the need for a shield, Beijing and Moscow see a weapon in it. A silent weapon that prepares the land for future confrontations in space. And the space, once the field of international exploration and collaboration, thus becomes the theater of an increasingly aggressive competition.
According to some American sources, China and Russia already have systems capable of disrupting the operation of American satellites: lasers, satellite and even antisatelite nuclear weapons. In such a landscape, “Golden Dome” could be just the beginning of a new discouragement logic-one with its own orbit.
Moscow reacts. Half -voice
In Moscow, the reaction was more temperate than in the past. The Kremlin asked for “consultations”, but admitted that the American initiative is essentially related to the sovereignty of the United States. A more nuanced positioning than the previous statements, in which Russia claimed that the American project “will justify a significant response to the Russian space arsenal.”
Trump, asked if he has already discussed Vladimir Putin about the project, he replied dryly: “Not yet. But I will do it at the right time.”
Meanwhile, in a common statement issued at the beginning of the month, China and Russia described the project “Golden Dome” as a “fundamentally destabilizing” and warned that it transforms the space into an “armed confrontation arena”.
The American project, far from being just a technological achievement, thus becomes a symbol: of a world in which every great power is preparing not only to defend itself, but to hit, if necessary – either from the ground or from the orbit.
“Golden Dome” is no longer just a great metaphor. It is a promise of security-but also an invitation to instability, in a world in which the alliances are resumed, and the borders, including those between the atmosphere and the cosmos, become more porous.
