The German authorities carried out a search at Rostislav Şurma's residence in Bavaria, the former deputy chief of President Volodimir Zelenski, confirmed the Ukrainian and German authorities, reports Politico, quoted by News.ro.

According to the German publication der Spiegel, the search took place on July 15, at the request of the National Anticorruption Bureau of Ukraine (Nabu), the public agency investigating corruption in Ukraine and preparing the files for criminal prosecution.

Şrma was appointed deputy chief of the Presidential Bureau in 2021 and was in charge of dealing with issues related to the Ukrainian economy. In the summer of 2023, he was subjected to an investigation after the Bihus.info investigative journalism site revealed that his brother benefited from subsidies granted by the Government to solar power plants in the territories occupied by the Russian troops.

Şurma held the position from the Presidential Bureau until September last year, when his dismissal was announced before a major reshuffle of Zelenski's office. Shortly thereafter, he moved to the Bavarian city of Starnberg.

According to Ukrainska Pravda, the search requested by Nabu at Şurma's home was angry with the Ukrainian president, who opposed the “international magnitude” that the investigations took. The publication claims that this was a major factor in Zelenski's decision to sign the controversial law last month that placed the anti -corruption agency under the control of the executive.

The legislation, which granted the Attorney General appointed by the President of Direct Authority on Nabu and the special anti-corruption (SAPO), caused thousands of protesters to go to Kiev as a sign of protest and did the leaders in Brussels to warn Zelenski that he endangers the ambitions of Ukraine.
