The management of the Emergency Clinical Hospital “Prof. Dr. Agrippa Ionescu” sent an official statement on the situation of Ion Iliescu on Saturday.
According to him, the general condition of the former president has been significantly damaged in the last hours. Currently, the patient is in a critical condition, characterized by the progressive installation of multiple organ dysfunctions.
It also suffers from severe respiratory impairment, and its ventilatory capacity is important, which complicates even more treatment.
We remind you that, from June 9, when he was urgently hospitalized with severe respiratory problems, and was later diagnosed with lung cancer, former president Ion Iliescu is supervised by a multidisciplinary medical team.
Ion Iliescu, who turned 95 in March 2025, has a complex medical history. In April 2019, the former president was operated on the Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases “CC Iliescu”, for a serious condition: liquid pericarditis, an inflammation of the heart coating that required surgery.
Before the current hospitalization, he was constantly monitored, through periodic checks performed at Elias Hospital in the Capital, in recent years his public appearances being extremely rare, communicating with the public and the press, mainly through personal blog.
