Morten Harket, the legendary soloist of the A-HA band, a composer, father and grandfather, was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. The artist chose to speak publicly about this challenge only recently, explaining that he avoided the official announcement to protect his personal space and the peace needed for the creative process.

“It was not difficult for me to accept the diagnosis”, confessed Morten Harket, 64 years old. “I gradually adopted the attitude of my father, who at the age of 94 said simply:” I use what works “,” the artist explained.

The announcement about the disease the band's soloist suffers was made by the journalist and biographer of the band, Jan Omdahl, who published an article on the official website. According to him, only a few people in Morten's near entourage were aware of the diagnosis.

“As a biographer of A-HA, I was asked to contribute with an article to A-ha.com about Morten's condition, which until now remained strictly private. A few people in his near circle know he is sick, but the unpredictable consequences of the public declaration of the disease have caused him not to make an announcement,” He wrote on the website of Jan Omdahl.

For his part, Morten Harket explained that the disease management involves a fragile balance between medication and side effects.

“A part of me wanted to reveal it. As I said, the diagnosis recognition was not a problem for me; my need for peace and peace to work is the one that stopped me. I try as much as possible to prevent as much as possible my entire system to decline. It is a difficult balance between taking the drugs and managing their side effects. There are so many things to balance when emulsifying the master way in which the body manages every complex movement, or issues and social invitations, or daily life in general ”, confesses the 64 -year -old artist, quoted by News.ro.

Parkinson's disease affects the cells in the brain responsible for dopamine production and influences the control of the movements. Although not lethal, the evolution of the disease is progressive.

In June 2024, Morten underwent complex deep brain stimulation (DBS) at the US Clinic in the US, a procedure in which electrodes were implanted on the left side of the brain, connected to a device similar to a cardiac stimulator. The results were promising, and in December the same year the procedure was repeated on the right side, with the same success.

His neurologist, Dr. Christina Sundal, a former researcher at the Mayo clinic, facilitated the musician's access to this state -of -the -art treatment.

The message for fans

Morten Harket also sent an emotional message to his fans.

“Don't worry about me. Find out who you want to be – a process that can be new every day. Be good servants of nature, the basis of our existence, and take care of the environment as much as possible. Dedic your energy and effort to solve real problems and to know that I am cared for“, Is the message of the soloist A-HA for his fans.
