The Lewotobi Laki-Laki volcano in Indonesi erupted on Friday and ejected into the atmosphere an imposing ash column that reached about 10 kilometers, reported the geology agency in this country, reports by Agerpres.

The eruption occurred at the local time 08:48 (00:48 GMT) in the eastern part of the island of Flores, in the province of East Tenggara, the Indonesian Agency said.

The eruption was accompanied by a loud noise, according to the same agency, citing observers at the Lewotobi monitoring station, located nearby.

The volcano remains under a monitoring with the highest level of alert.

Locals and tourists were warned to avoid any activity within a radius of 6 kilometers around the peak of this volcano, the dangerous area extending up to 7 kilometers, from the southwest to the northeast sectors.

Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki, one of the two peaks of the Lewotobi volcanic complex, has registered an increased activity in recent years. Indonesia, located in the region of the “Pacific Fire Circle”, hosts over 120 active volcanoes.

In November 2024, this volcano ejected rocks hot for several kilometers around the crater, killing 10 people.
