Train tickets, more expensive today. How much the Romanians will pay after VAT increase

CFR Călaturi and private operators of rail transport of passengers increase the prices of train tickets, from 1 August, with the increase of VAT from 19% to 21%.
The increase of the prices of tickets for the second class will be from 0 lei to a maximum of 3 lei, and in the class will be of maximum 4.5 lei.
CFR Călaturi has argued, in a press release, that the measure supports the recovery and balancing of the economic activity of all the railway transport operators in Romania strictly against the background of the VAT rate from 19% to 21%.
The updating of the tariffs is applied by all six railway operators: CFR Călători National Society and five other private railway operators.
“Basically, the increase of ticket prices in the second class will be from 0 lei to maximum 3 lei, and in the class the increase will be of maximum 4.5 lei, these maximum values being reached in the case of IC trains for kilometric areas of over 600 km,” CFR Călaturi said.
The last time the price of train tickets increased was on December 15, 2024, when they were expensive by 4.6%
