The Ukrainian club Dinamo Kiev paid tribute to the most titled Romanian coach, Mircea Lucescu, who trained the team from the capital of Ukraine in the period 2020-2023. “Il Luce” passed away on Tuesday, April 7, at the age of 80, and three days later he was buried at the Bellu Cemetery in Bucharest.
Mircea Lucescu coached Dinamo Kiev between July 2020 and November 2023. In his first season, the Romanian coach managed the domestic treble, winning the championship, the Cup and the Ukrainian Supercup (2020-2021). Under his leadership, the club returned to the UEFA Champions League groups after a four-year absence.
Later, his mandate was influenced by the context of the war in Ukraine, the team being forced to play the matches on their own ground in neutral locations, including in Romania. Lucescu left in the fall of 2023, citing logistical difficulties and results below expectations.

Dinamo's players entered the field today in special t-shirts, dedicated to the memory of Mircea Lucescu.
The initiative of this action belonged to the FC Dinamo Kyiv club, which wanted to honor the contribution of the exceptional coach, the one who left a strong mark in the life of the club and in the whole of Ukrainian football.
“Metalist 1925” supported this gesture, sharing respect for the personality of Mircea Lucescu and joining the moment of tribute.
