Eurovision 2026 begins. When Alexandra Căpitănescu, representing Romania, enters the competition

Alexandra Căpitănescu and her bandmates participated on Sunday evening in the opening ceremony of the Eurovision contest, which took place in Vienna, according to TVR.

All 35 participating countries paraded on the turquoise carpet, the color of the competition's main partner, a cosmetics company.

“We want to enjoy this experience. Thank you very much for supporting us, I hope you like our costumes and, of course, we'll see you in the second semi-final. Don't forget, be original, I love you so much!”, said Alexandra Căpitănescu.

Eurovision 2026. When Romania enters the contest

The 2026 edition of the Eurovision Song Contest is being held in Vienna this year. on May 12 and 14, the semi-finals, and the grand final on May 16.

The representative of our country will take the stage of the Wiener Stadthalle in the first part of the second semi-final, on May 14.

Alongside Alexandra Căpitănescu, her bandmates, Bogdan Stoican, Luca Şofron, Matei Cohal and Thomas Cîrcotă, will perform.

Alexandra Căpitănescu said of her controversial song, “Choke Me”, that it is “a personal manifesto”. “It's a very honest story, about the fragile balance between falling and coming back,” Romania's representative at Eurovision 2026 told HotNews.

The head of the delegation for the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 is Smaranda Vornicu. The delegation that went to Vienna on Sunday also includes Iuliana Marciuc, in charge of the project, and the artistic, technical, production and promotion team for Romania's participation in the competition.

Eurovision 2026. Who broadcasts the contest

Along with Romania, Albania, Denmark, Armenia, Cyprus, Switzerland, Norway, Azerbaijan, Luxembourg, Malta, Bulgaria, Australia, Ukraine, Czech Republic and Latvia will also compete in the second semi-final.

Romania's best rankings were the 2nd place, occupied twice (Luminiţa Anghel & Sistem – Kiev, 2005; Paula Seling and Ovi – Oslo, 2010), respectively the 4th position (Mihai Trăistariu – Athens, 2006).

The Eurovision 2026 semi-finals and final will be broadcast live on TVR 1, on May 12, 14 and 16, from 10 p.m.

The Eurovision 2026 final will also be broadcast on the official Eurovision YouTube.

Eurovision 2026. Finland, the main favourite

The main favorites for Eurovision 2026 are the representatives of Finland, Linda Lampenius and Peter Parkkonen, with the song “Liekinheitin”.

After several years of absence, Romania is credited with a place in the final. In Eurovision fan polls, Alexandra Căpitănescu's song is among the public's favorites.

She has already done her first rehearsal on stage in Vienna.

At the bookies, she is rated as the eighth favorite to win the trophy.
