The president of PSD Buzau, Romeo Lungu, told Agerpres on Thursday that there are “discussions” for a possible candidacy of Marcel Ciolacu for the head of the Buzau County Council.
“There are discussions for Marcel Ciolacu to run for the County Council. It would be a great honor for us, the organization, that the former prime minister Marcel Ciolacu could run from PSD for CJ Buzău,” said Romeo Lungu.
The position of president of CJ Buzău remained vacant after the resignation of Lucian Romașcanu, the winner of the 2024 elections, who in May 2025 announced that he was renouncing “all political and administrative functions” to become a member of the Court of European Accounts from Romania.
Former Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu was elected deputy on the PSD Buzau lists for four consecutive terms, including in the elections of December 1, 2024.
He resigned from the position of prime minister on May 5, 2025, after losing the entrance to the Presidential Finals, the candidate of the ruling coalition from that moment (PSD-PNL-UDMR), Crin Antonescu. After the second round, Marcel Ciolacu also gave up the position of PSD president.
