PKP Intercity carried 40.4 million passengers in the first half of the year; This is the best result in the company's history – infrastructure minister Dariusz Klimczak said on Wednesday. According to the carrier's estimates, 8.7 million passengers will be transported in July, which will be a monthly record.
The minister emphasized at a press conference that in comparison with the same period of last year there was an increase in the number of passengers transported by 9 %, and compared to 2023 by 31 percent.
“This is an absolute record (…). Our goal is to better travel, more and more connections, more and more punctual railways” – assured Klimczak.
The head of the infrastructure ministry pointed out that in the first half of the year the carrier launched 514 connections every day.
“It is 60 more than a year earlier and 50 connections a day than in 2023“-he added.
Soon new new connections
“In autumn we will also present new connections that will result from the supply of new rolling stock: new wagons, new locomotives. (…) I hope that we will close this year with the next record, we will exceed 80 million passengers transported” – summed up the minister.
Deputy Minister of Infrastructure, present at the conference, Piotr Malepszak emphasized that, according to PKP Intercity's estimates, he would transport 8.7 million passengers in July.
“We know that July will be record -breaking. Not only as July, but a record for the whole company in its history when it comes to a monthly result” he noted.
He added that currently records are falling on virtually all routes when it comes to the number of passengers transported. “Our goal in the next 4 years is to exceed 100 million passengers” – reminded Malepszak.
PKP Intercity is the largest Polish railway operator that provides communication between large cities and popular tourist centers in the country, and also allows traveling around Europe. PKP Intercity took trains last year. 78.5 million passengers, i.e. by 15 percent more than a year earlier and 33 percent more than in 2022.
The company offers traveling four categories of trains. Your railway lines (TLK) and Intercity (IC) are economic connections, while Express Intercity (EIC) and supported by Pendolino Express Intercity Premium (EIP) vehicles – express connections.
The carrier estimates that this year it will increase the number of passengers transported to 88 million, in 2030 – to 110 million. (PAP)
