In the years 2021–24 the system of checking and assessing matura exams did not work as it should, so the grades in these exams were not always objective and fair – assessed the Supreme Audit Office.

The results of the NIK control “System for checking and assessing matura exams in 2021-2024” was presented on Tuesday at a press conference in Warsaw.
The NIK delegation in Poznań carried out an ad hoc inspection regarding the system of checking and assessing matura exams in 2021-2024. The Central Examination Board in Warsaw and the District Examination Commission in Poznań were checked, covering the scope of operation of the following voivodships: West Pomeranian, Lubuskie and Greater Poland.
The control showed that every fifth OKE examiner in Poznań “made substantive errors in the assessment of matura exams, and from 10 % to 18 % of the examiners made technical errors.”
“In OKE in Poznań, 40 % of applications for verification of the result of the matriculation examination ended with its increase and the need to change his maturity certificate. In the whole country, this concerned 25 percent of such cases. For many high school graduates, lowering the grade could mean a lost chance for studies,” we read. (PAP)
