China versus the USA. The powers are negotiating in Stockholm

At the headquarters of the Swedish government at the Rosenbad Palace, two -day trade negotiations between the USA and China began on Monday. According to the media, conversations can pave the way to the meeting of President Donald Trump with the leader of China XI Jinping.

The American side in the capital of Sweden is represented by the Secretary of the Treasury (Minister of Finance) Scott Bessent and the Chinese deputy prime minister of this country HE LiFeng. Both politicians were greeted by the Prime Minister of Sweden Ulf Kristersson.

As the US representative for Jamieson Greer, the United States “begins negotiations on MSNBC television, having a strong position after concluding agreements with the EU, Japan and other countries.”

According to AP agencies, the conversation to Tuesday can lead to a meeting at the top between Trump and XI Jinping. In turn, the Chinese newspaper “South China Morning Post” announced that the parties are expected to extend the 90 days in the trade war, i.e. during this period the higher duties will not apply.

Bessent previously announced that he wanted to raise other issues, including starting to talk about China's purchase of crude oil with sanctions of sources, from Russia and Iran. Due to these purchases and material support for Russia, China would be the main purpose of 100 % secondary duties and sanctions, which were threatened with Russia, President Donald Trump, if Russia did not contain peace with Ukraine.

Among the other issues discussed may be the fate of Tiktok and plans to take it over by American investors. In June, Trump signed another decree that allows Chinese application to function on the US market despite the act prohibiting the operation of Tiktok under Chinese control, but its date expires on September 17.

In connection with the meeting in Stockholm, the police introduced elevated security measures, closing part of the city center. On the margins of negotiations, there was also a meeting of the Chinese delegation with representatives of the Swedish government. (PAP)
