Deputy Prime Minister and head of the Ministry of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz assessed on Wednesday during the Local Government Forum in Zakopane that there is currently no need to unfreeze compulsory military service, pointing to the high interest in voluntary service.

– Today I see no need to unfreeze compulsory military service. It is suspended, so there is always such a possibility, said Deputy Prime Minister Kosiniak-Kamysz. He noted that currently the number of volunteers in Poland is larger than in many European countries considering or conducting compulsory military service.
As he emphasized, there is voluntary compulsory military service in Poland.
– This year, if we add up all types of military training ending with an oath and joining the Polish Armed Forces – both professional service, WOT and reserve – there are approximately 54,000. people: 35 thousand in voluntary service, 10 thousand territorials and about 10 thousand participants of the “Holidays with the Army” program – he mentioned.
The head of the Ministry of National Defense also pointed to a significant increase in domestic ammunition production. – Within two years, MESKO increased the production of small-caliber ammunition from 50 million to 250 million pieces per year – he emphasized. – This is a huge leap that meets the needs of individual equipment for soldiers and uniformed services – added the Minister of Defense.
The Deputy Prime Minister also reminded that thanks to the Act on Ammunition Factories, the production capacity of 155 mm ammunition is to increase thirtyfold. Three plants, co-financed with PLN 3 billion, are intended to ensure Poland's independence in the production of this key caliber.
The Local Government Forum, organized in Zakopane for the first time, was devoted to sustainable development, economy, health care, safety and resistance to crisis situations. The organizer of the event is the Institute of Eastern Studies Foundation, and the main partner is the Marshal's Office of the Lesser Poland Voivodeship. (PAP)
