“Barely noticeable streams, blood colors.” In Mariupol, people were almost left without water

“Russian invaders cynically call the“ water blockade ”a disaster, which they themselves created in Mariupol,” the City Council said.

Now in Mariupol water is supplied only once every two days, for a maximum of four hours. But even these meager schedules are not respected, noted in the message. “There is either no water at all, or it flows with barely noticeable streams, or its color is terrifying – the water of the color of blood. The Mariupols even launched a kind of flash mob, showing how water from cranes in their houses is coming,” the city council said. In particular, residents of the Nevsky Quarter, who are played by the Russian occupiers of the quarter, complain.

At the same time, the city constantly breaks through the sewer, and the “power” includes fountains.

The City Council noted that during the brutal military blockade of Mariupol and hostilities in the Donetsk region, the Russian army purposefully destroyed the critical infrastructure, in particular, the water supply system, which was supposed to provide civilian water. After that, the problem was simply ignored until it acquired the scale of a real humanitarian disaster.

Before the occupation, Mariupol received water from two sources: the Seversky Donets channel and the reserve Staro-Krymsky reservoir. The Russian invasion destroyed critical water supply networks, damaging the Seversky Donets. The city was forced to switch to the only backup water supply, which the occupiers brought to complete exhaustion by negligence and inaction, the city council said.

“The invaders cynically claim that to solve the“ water blockade ”they are building a new water supply, which they allegedly promise to launch in 2026. However, the practice of occupation showed: the Russians do not observe any deadlines. This is an attempt to calm people,” the report said.
