The government should do more to protect Poles from the effects of climate change – according to research conducted by Ipsos at the request of the Clientearth Foundation Lawyers for Earth. Almost 70 percent respondents believe that we should spend more on this purpose than today.

Almost 60 percent He sees the problem of drought in Poland as a direct result of climate change and expects urgent solutions from the rulers. In turn, 56 percent respondents bind last year's flood in Lower Silesia with many years of neglect in climate policy and water management.
“In the polarized society, there are decreases about which we are talking about in one voice. The circulated view says that everything except the weight we give the condition of the healthcare we give, and recently external security,” says Przemysław Sadura, head of the Department of Politics Sociology at the Faculty of Sociology at the University of Warsaw and the co -author of the study.
“Our research proves that this list should be expanded. Adaptation, i.e. proper preparation for climate change, is the largest Polish climate consensus. The increase in expenditure for this purpose is supported by 70 percent. Polish women and Poles, and the approval for these activities goes across political divisions, “added Prof. Sadura.
55 percent surveyed by Ipsos believes that if we spend about 5 percent to defense. GDP, we should additionally guarantee at least 1 percent. GDP for climate safety.
“In the 21st century, we must think about safety in multidimensional, taking into account the climate crisis. This is not only an important issue security of borders, but also guarantees of access to water, food and the costs of extreme weather phenomena, such as flooding, floods, fires, drought and storms. These phenomena often entail victims in people and huge material losses“-said Agnieszka Warso-Buchanan, legal councilor and member of the board of the Clientearth Foundation Lawyers for Earth.
“The Foundation demands the authorities for climate security.
The need to improve climate security is also emphasized by the authors of the recently published report of the Clientearth Foundation and the Reform Institute. Their analyzes show that by 2050 Poland may lose up to PLN 124 billion per year due to climate change, which corresponds to 2.2 percent. domestic GDP in the middle of the century.
Experts warn that Without accelerating the transformation and adaptation actions, the losses will be increasing and not only the state budget will sufferbut also society, paying with your property, health, and in extreme cases – even with life.
The Clientearth Foundation proposes an amendment to the Environmental Protection Law, which will enable effective implementation of the right to a safe climate and build Poland's real resistance to the effects of climate crisis.
Among the postulates – in addition to allocating 1 percent The budget for climate security – there is the appointment of an atmospheric safety spokesman who, at the head of an independent, expert institution, would make sure that the state fulfills its duties to citizens – and could settle the authorities from it, as well as fight climate disinformation. Similar institutions already operate, among others in Great Britain, New Zealand or Denmark.
The Foundation also proposes the obligation to have adaptation plans – every commune, voivodship and the entire state should have a specific plan to deal with the effects of climate change with the budget assigned and a clearly defined scope of tasks.
The survey was carried out in May 2025 by the Ipsos agency, according to the script prepared by Przemysław Sadura, on a representative sample of 1000 people using quantitative and quality methods. Some interviews were conducted by phone (Cati) and some online (CAWI), using the Mixed-Mode approach. (PAP Biznes)
