New supervisory board of KGHM? Famous names and questions about the future


Is another state-owned company facing staff reshuffles? At least that's what it looks like. The upcoming general meeting of shareholders of KGHM promises to be short and concise. Here is the agenda:

Although, as the website reminds, the shareholding in the company is highly dispersed – the State Treasury holds only about 31.79%. – however, his power in the company is full, the final say in it is actually the Minister of State Assets. And this one wants changes.
What can we expect? The wnp.pl website informs, citing an anonymous trade union activist, that these council members will resign from their positions, “whom the new minister knows less well or in whom he has limited confidence.”

Candidates for the Supervisory Board of KGHM
On January 16, the State Treasury presented candidates for new members of the Supervisory Board of KGHM. The nominees included experienced managers with extensive professional achievements, as well as a well-known lawyer and former Minister of Justice. The election of a new board composition may herald further changes in the management structures of one of the largest Polish companies.

The list of candidates for the Supervisory Board included prof. Zbigniew Ćwiąkalskiformer Minister of Justice in Donald Tusk's government, as well as a recognized lawyer and specialist in criminal law. His experience also covers economic issues – he is an arbitrator recommended at the Court of Arbitration at the Polish Chamber of Commerce. Ćwiąkalski's appearance among the candidates raises questions about possible accountability for the actions of the previous management boards of KGHM, although for now it is difficult to talk about specific plans in this regard.
The nominees also included Remigiusz Paszkiewicz, an expert in the field of industrial transformation of organizations. In the years 2023–2025, he served as a member of the management board of the Slovenian company Slovenske Železnice – Tovorni Promet, and previously he was, among others, president of Anwil and PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe.
Łukasz Żelewsk may also join the counciland, a manager with 35 years of experience in managing large business entities. Żelewski was associated with, among others, with Poczta Polska, Agencja Rozwoju Pomorza and Energa Ozdrowienie, where he co-created development strategies for multi-plant organizations.

The fourth candidate is Artur Ulrichdoctor of economics, who for many years was associated with Viessmann, now part of the American concern Carrier. In this company, he served as general director, president of the management board and president of exports to Eastern Europe and the Middle East.
