During the meeting of the Polish-Czech commission supervising the implementation of the “Turów” mine, the Polish party undertook to take further funds that will help to reduce the noise coming from the opencast, said on Wednesday a representative of the Czech Republic in the Commission Michal Pastvinsky.

It was the fourth from the signing of the intergovernmental agreement on the “Turów” mine in 2022. A meeting of a commission supervising primarily solutions regarding the negative effects of extraction in the brown coal mine on Czech territory. Noise, underground waters and air pollution were dealt with.
Measurements carried out on the Czech side have shown that noise from the mine from 2021 to the last measurements in May this year. In 22 cases, he exceeded the night limit of 40 dB, which the World Health Organization (WHO) recommends. Measurements are regularly conducted on the Czech side in Vaclavice and úhelná, closest to the mine.
The representative of the Czech government for the “Turów” mine Michal Pastvinsky from the Ministry of the Environment explained to journalists that there are higher limits in Poland – 45 dB, and in the past the Polish side also questioned the measurement methodology. “Currently, their site recognizes the results and prepares remedies,” he said.
Martin Puta, head of the Libereckie Libera (voivodship), drew attention to exceeding the noise limit. He admitted that long -term noise limits are not exceeded. “There are short -term exceedances, which is unacceptable in the long run,” Puta said.
In his opinion, the problem can be solved technically. – For example, at night, in part of the mine, tape transporters and other mining machines will not operate, unless technical solutions are found that will lower the noise level – he said and expressed the hope that in September specific information about what the mine management wants to do.
According to Puty, at a meeting of the joint committee, the Czech side presented Polish partners with projects for which he allocated money from the compensation provided for in the 2022 contract. In the Liberca region, work is underway on a new water treatment station and a pipeline is being built, which will provide enough drinking water in the immediate vicinity of the mine.
According to the Czech representative, the Polish party meets the remaining elements of the contract. It was created, among others A special underground barrier that prevents the outflow of groundwater from the town adjacent to the opening mine. Their inhabitants from the noise and dust from the mine are to be protected by the shaft planted with greenery. The earth structure itself has already been created, but it takes several years for its woodening.
As part of the agreement signed by the prime ministers of both countries, the Polish party paid the Czechs compensation of EUR 45 million, of which 35 million euros went to the Liberecki region's self -government account for the “Turów” fund.
