The “Andrei Mureșanu” Theater in Sfântu Gheorghe will benefit from a new showroom for the young public, informs Agerpres. The present value of the project is 1,500,000 lei only for the construction of the building, for its use to be established another project.
The director of the theater expresses his concern about this budget, the fear being that the development and stages of the project could be affected by the national context marked by austerity measures meant to reduce the budget deficit, according to Anna Maria Popa, the director of the theater, for the public Hotnews.
The financing is provided by public funds, the main financier being the City Hall of Sfântu Gheorghe, through the development account. The repertoire will be extended to include dedicated productions especially to children and adolescents.
Negotiations and plans started three years ago, and now the project begins to materialize. It is, however, in the incipient phase, respectively when obtaining authorizations and negotiations for the exact establishment of the site. The new room would have a capacity of about 60 seats.
“It was a great necessity from our point of view and my managerial staff, because, repertorial, in our theater the greatest need (no shows) was at the children's segment,” says the institution manager.
What the new room will look like
The new room will be built according to the model of the one at the Cimborák puppet theater in Sfântu Gheorghe. It will be a modern, fully equipped space, which will be able to host shows for an audience equivalent to the maximum two classrooms.
“Being a majority Hungarian area, we took the size of the room, so it is the only thing we started and from which we inspired ourselves under construction, where, if the Cimborák hall has somewhere over 50 places, we thought that, for the Romanian language population, which is less, a similar room,” Hotnews.
The construction of the new room will be made step. The first stage involves the adaptation of the existing building to allow the start of the works to the new construction, which will be located behind the current building. The two buildings will be connected by a passage space.
All the works will be assigned by public auctions, and each stage will be publicly announced, starting with the time of obtaining the authorizations and completing the architectural plans.
The existing building, in which the theater and cinema are operating, is the property of Sfântu Gheorghe City Hall.
The new showroom will not have a separate authorization, but will be an annex of the existing property, which will remain in the administration of the town hall, the director of the theater said.
Although the budget is fully provided from state funds, the director of the theater says that it has concerns about how the theater project risks being affected by the budget cuts.
“We are in danger of starting the works and here I have the greatest fear not to get me all the budget cuts with the building high in half and, then, to wake up next year that, unfortunately, we are no longer offered a budget to complete it. So that would be the most tragic budget variant.
