Romanian classic. Ruthless with the cooks in hospitals and the portions of potatoes in the malls, Piedone softened at the Hotel of Friend Rușanu

“We control all the state institutions, because the hell takes us, while the tricks are protected, although they are full of problems.” I recently heard these words in the mouth of an investor on the Romanian coast and I could not help but think about it when I saw the prosecutors against Cristian Popescu Piedone.

The man complained that, despite appearances, his business is going pretty bad in recent years. Taxes and expenses increased, and he cannot raise the prices too much because no one enters the restaurant. Nor are the state controllers correct, said the entrepreneur. Nobody controls them, they can do what they want: evasion, hire black, work without authorizations. The others, who have no protection, have controls over controls, have been charged with authorizations whenever they were browsed by the state inspectors.

If we bend our ear to those in Horeca, we will find out very often. I think there are more than we imagined. But, to recognize honestly, we generally do not care about the owners of hotels, bars and restaurants. They have a reduced quota to VAT, even though they have grown now and from 9 to 11 %. And, anyway, when we have to tighten the belt, we get the first “horecari” of “horecari”: we can live without restaurants and holidays.

But, this morning, the news in Romania opened the horror: Cristian Popescu Piedone, this God from Consumer Protection, the one who destroyed the mafi of the cooks in hospitals and revealed Tiktok how the multinationals from the malls at the portion of fried potatoes were led by the potato, and it was a long North and taken home for searches.

As a parenthesis, it is ironic that the one who transformed the state control activity into an entertainment show for Tiktok was raised by investigators right from the coast with most illegalities on the built square meter.

“Multinationals”, the culprits of service

“I disturbed much, I talk about corporations and many others you do not know,” Piedone explained to the journalists, in front of his house in Bragadiru, from where his “trouble” is drawn.

However, the variant of DNA prosecutors is quite different: the ANPC chief is accused of warning the owner of a hotel in Sinaia to come to control. It is about Dan Radu Rușanu, a former Liberal deputy and former head of the Financial Supervisory Authority, whom Piedone recognizes that he is “friend of years”.

We could say that Piedone's world is still small. Coincidentally, Dan Rușanu was also arrested years ago because he would have protected an insurance company, which went bankrupt in the meantime. It was paid by judges in 2017.

Last year, Rușanu had shares in four companies, received from the state 313,248 lei from the membership allowance as of the NBR, 127,800 lei from a pension and another 142,750 from the pension to the former deputy. The hotel in Sinaia is on behalf of the wife.

The former Liberal deputy denies that he had been warned by Piedone before control. The employees of the hotel say, however, that, before the Descade of ANPC, they received from this institution an offer for accommodation.

So stay, how?

The institution that was going to come to a hotel in advance asked the administrators if they do not have free rooms? Indeed, very ingenious method of surprising those you want to control.

It is important that Piedone checked “blood”: “It smells clean”, “bravo broth”, “here you have a 200 -star hotel, not 4 stars”. From the video posted by the ANPC chief on the Internet, it was not well understood whether it was a control action or an advertising clip.

Too bad, however, that Piedone did not documented more thoroughly. If he read the press, he could find out, for example, that the hotel did not have a fire safety authorization, as revealed context.ro in a last year's investigation. Of course, it does not fall into the attributions of ANPC, such as the weight of the fried potato portion from the mall.

Dan Rușanu now blames the multinationals, for the “incident” with Piedone: “Did you find that Piedone has checked multinational? Has anyone else?” the former head of ASF, contacted by Hotnews, asks.

I do not know if DNA accusations against Piedone will stand in court. But let's go back to the story of the entrepreneur cited at the beginning of the article. Here, he could think, another confirmation that we are not equal in front of the state. Rightly so.

There are certainly many who really believe that Piedone is drawn from the fact that he has checked the “multinationals”. That they “were upset”, because they were fined, and ordered “something to be”. I do not want to contradict them, just waiting for the evidence.

Until then, what we see is that a head of institution, a politician, is accused of favoring the private business of another former head of institution, and he had to control. Is it a Romanian classic, according to the advertisement, where to enter a multinational here?
