His latest statements come in the context of recent telephone discussions with both Vladimir Putin and Volodimir Zelenski, while the US reduced weapons to Kiev.
President Donald Trump said on Friday, July 4, even on US Independence Day, that he will not be able to end the war between Russia and Ukraine, a position that is at the opposite pole to the firm promise made in the election campaign, when he claimed that he would stop the conflict immediately after taking over the mandate.
“I don't know. I can't tell you if it will happen or not.” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One, when he was asked if he was confident that he would manage to stop the fights between the two countries.
However, he punctuated that the end of the war remains a priorityE: “Yes. I would like to see that this is happening.”
During the election campaign, Donald Trump said he can end the fights “on the first day of mandate”, but later, in an interview for Time Magazine, he had this promise, calling it “an exaggeration”.
“I helped a lot of countries”, Trump said Friday. “The situation in Ukraine – this is a Biden business. It's not a Trump business. I try to complete it.”
We remind you that since returning to the White House he has also tried to mediate a peace agreement between Kiev and Moscow, although he has previously threatened to give up mediation efforts, against the background of frustration towards lack of progress in stopping the conflict.
This week, Trump discussed by Russian President Vladimir Putin by telephone and with Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski, without any concrete, however.
“I told you that I was very dissatisfied with my conversation with President Putin. He wants to go to the endto continue to kill people and it is not good ”,
he told American journalists Friday.
In contrast, the discussion with Volodimir Zelenski was described by the Ukrainian leader as “very important and fruitful”. According to a post on its social networks, the two presidents discussed the air defense of Ukraine, the cooperation in the field of defense production and “mutual acquisitions and investments”, also confirmed aspects, which suggested that there is the possibility of concrete steps in terms of relations with Ukraine.
However, earlier this week, Donald Trump suspended some weapons deliveries to Ukraine, invoking concerns about lowering US ammunition stocks, in the context of conflict prolongation.
