With the last success, the Romanian climber ticked 11 ascents on peaks over 8,000 meters. Its goal is to climb all the 14 optmias in the world.
“Peak! Today, July 4, at 7.00, I arrived on Nanga Parbat (8,125 m),” announced Horia Colibășanu, according to a post on his Facebook page.
“A feeling of deep gratitude after nine hours of ascent. It was a long and difficult night. Thank you for your supporting thoughts!” He added.
“The killer mountain”
Located in Pakistan, Nanga Parbat (8,125 m) is the ninth the highest mountain in the world and the western tip of the Himalaya chain.
It is an extremely difficult and dangerous mountain to escalate, the rate of deaths among mountaineers reaching 22%.
It is probably the reason why he received the nicknames of the “killer mountain” and “the eating of people”.
Considered, along with K2 as one of the most difficult mountains on the planet, Nanga Parbat is renowned for the rupee slope, 4,600 meters high – the largest rocky wall on Earth.
The first successful ascent was made in 1953 by the Austrian climber Hermann Buhl.
Last stop
On Thursday, Colibășanu announced on Facebook that he installed his tent in the highest camp-at 7,100 meters.
“I arrived about two hours ago, but it took something until I managed to mount the tent and moisturize.
The wind blows in gusts of 60-70 km/h, stops 3-4 minutes, then starts again. It was about to fly my tent as I arranged it. Now it is well anchored, with everything I had, shovel, Piolet. I installed it in the wind direction, to be better, ”he wrote.
“It seems that in the evening the wind would be quiet, I plan to go to the top tonight, but I will not do it until I know I can return safely,” the climber announced.
Colibășanu's goal
The expedition “Nanga Parbat 2025” was carried out in the characteristic style of the Romanian mountaineer, without additional oxygen and without the support of the snakes, writes News.ro.
Nanga Parbat was one of the great challenges of Horia Colibăşanu on his way to the goal of climbing all 14 peaks over 8,000 meters around the world.
He had already succeeded in ten optmias, including four of the most dangerous in the world: K2, Annapurna, Dhaulagiri and Kangchenjunga – all made without additional oxygen and without snakes.
