The authorities in Constanța have decided that all the schools in the county should be closed on Wednesday, after the meteorologists issued a red code for heavy rains and vigils, valid from Tuesday evening and until Wednesday evening, the local Replica site reports.
The decision was taken today, at noon, in the extraordinary meeting of the County Committee for Emergency Situations (CJSU) Constanța, convened as a result of the warning of red rain code.
Constanta is the first county to take such a measure in the context of extreme weather. In Calarasi and Ialomita counties, both affected by the same red rain code, no applications have been made yet, notes Constanta Day.
The prefect of Constanța, Adrian Picoiu, said that the decision regarding the closing of the schools will be sent to the Ministry of Education and Research for approval.
“Today, at 12 o'clock, I convened the County Committee of Emergency Situations. Starting tomorrow evening, October 7, at 9 pm, until tomorrow, October 8, at 23.00, Constanța and Constanța county is under the red code of heavy rains. We preferred to be preventive.
Also, the prefect made a direct call to the population: “Please stay in homes, do not go to shopping centers, public spaces or other places that involve unnecessary trips. The pronounced weather is extremely serious and there are real flood risks and other associated dangers,”
Extreme weather starting on Tuesday evening
ANM sent a weather information on rain, wind and visclated snow on Monday at high altitudes until Thursday and several bad weather codes, including a red rain code in three counties.
In Constanța, Călărași and Ialomița counties, it will be a red rain code between October 7, 9:00 pm – October 8, 11:00 pm. Here, ANM announces that it will rain abundantly, and in short intervals or by accumulation there will be 110 … 120 l/sqm water.
