Artificial intelligence in arbitration. Poland sets new standards

After a dozen or so months, the Polish Ultima Ratio online arbitration platform has implemented generative artificial intelligence. Thanks to this, arbitrators gain more time for substantive assessment of matters, and entrepreneurs – faster and more predictable decisions.

Justification of the judgment in seconds

OpenAI operating within the Azure platform made available by Microsoft He analyzes the facts of the case, compares it with case law, and then prepares a draft justification for the judgment. Artificial compares the facts of each case with the jurisprudence of common courts, the Supreme Court. The arbitrators, however, can fully edit the generated draft sentence. However, as Robert Szczepanek, the founder of Ultima Ratio, assures, the quality of the generated justifications is already so high that it often does not require corrections. – The key advantage of the new solution is the elimination of the impact of emotions and subjective factors. Artificial intelligence focuses only on facts and law, which allows you to maintain uniformity and neutrality in resolving disputes – adds Szczepanek.

The tests show that, thanks to the use of artificial intelligence, the time to prepare the justification of the judgment was reduced by 98 percent. from three hours to several seconds.

As an example, he gives a dispute between the software supplier and the marketing agency regarding the failure to comply with the provisions of the license agreement. – Both sides presented their positions on the platform, attaching documents. The arbitrators, supported by AI, issued a verdict within three weeks – a traditional procedure could take several months – explains Szczepanek.

Artificial intelligence is also to help the parties to the dispute

As noted by Joanna Zalewska, an expert in Microsoft for innovation in Central Europe, “the use of generative artificial intelligence in such a responsible area as the justification of judgments is a milestone in the mature application of AI. Poland not only benefits from global technologies, but also sets new standards of their practical use. In her opinion, the implementation of AI in the Polish arbitration platform economic in Europe.

There are plans to further develop the function of artificial intelligence, including Supporting pages in creating lawsuits or formal verification. The platform is also preparing for foreign expansion – in September it will start operating in Slovakia, and in the following steps plans to enter the Ukrainian and Dutch market.

The platform operates from over five years, considering several thousand economic matters annually worth from several to several hundred thousand zlotys. The procedure is fully digital and transparent – the client assumes the matter online, presents a claim and documents, and the arbitrators make decisions based on the collected evidence. Thanks to the implementation of artificial intelligence of the justification of judgments, they arise almost immediately after the analysis of the case.
