A criminal case was opened in Norilsk after the failure of the soil

A criminal case has been instituted in the Krasnoyarsk Territory on the death of an employee of the security organization as a result of the collapse of the soil, the Investigative Department of the IC of the Russian Federation said.

The failure of the soil occurred in the early morning of June 28 on the site near the gas massif in the Talny Norilsk area. The security post went underground – a mobile metal trailer. At that time, there was a 59-year-old woman in it.

Investigators explained that the post appeared after April 22 – then the first collapse of the soil occurred in this area. The guards from the private organization were responsible for restricting access to the danger zone.

At the moment, 8 excavators are operating on the site, they have chosen soil to a depth of about 70 meters, but they have not yet found a trailer. The whereabouts of a woman could not be established.

The Investigative Department of the IC of the Russian Federation explained that under this incident they consulted with the director of the Arctic Research University of Geotechnical Safety. He explained that the cause of the incident was a set of factors. This is a changing climate that affects the thawing of the soil, as well as the presence of groundwater on the area. Back in the 1970s, geological studies revealed in this place the ice “lenses”-a continuous layer of ice. In the event of its melting, emptiness forms, which can lead to the collapse of the soil.

On this incident, a criminal case was opened under Part 2 of Art. 143 of the Criminal Code (violation of labor protection requirements, which entailed by negligence of the death of a person), investigative actions are carried out aimed at establishing all the circumstances of the incident.
