Poland restores border controls. Germany has an offer


The head of the German Ministry of the Interior emphasized in an interview with DW that the proposal of joint patrols was submitted to the Polish Minister Tomasz Siemoniak, both in the past and just before the Donald Tusk government announced a decision to restore control.
Alexander Dobrindt said that such a solution would be beneficial for both sides. He noted that joint inspections could be carried out entirely on the German side, with the participation of officers of both countries.
According to Dobrindt, both Poland and Germany have a common purpose, which is to limit illegal migration. The minister explained that the cooperation of the services of both countries may contribute to more effective protection of borders and counteracting illegal exceedances.

Recently, the so-called Citizens' patrols, whose participants declare that they want to protect the border against illegal migrants. The head of the German Ministry of the Interior in an interview with DW referred to these activities, describing them as illegal.
Dobrindt emphasized that the Polish authorities assured the German side that they did not support such initiatives.
The minister also noted that it is on the Polish side that lies responsibility for solving this problem. He added that Germany does not intend to give Poland guidance in this matter, considering that each party should take appropriate actions on their own.
Polish-German controls? The rulers are skeptical
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz declared on Wednesday support for the temporary restoration of control at the Polish border with Germany and Lithuania. At the same time, he strongly denied the reports of opposition politicians that they were to be joint inspections with the participation of German services. The head of the Ministry of National Defense emphasized that these activities would only be carried out by Polish services.
The government's position was also confirmed by spokesman for the Ministry of Interior and Administration Jacek Dobrzyński. In Wednesday's entry on the website X argued that there were no plans to joint controls with the participation of German or Lithuanian services. He emphasized that the Border Guard, supported by the Military Police, Territorial Defense Forces and the Police, is preparing for independent action and organizes temporary border control points on the Polish side.
