Mihai Leu has died at the age of 56, writes Golazo.ro. Former world boxing champion and former national rally champion, Leu was admitted for more than a week to the Intensive Care Section of Fundeni Clinical Hospital in Bucharest. The announcement of the passing pass was made on the Facebook page dedicated to the former great champion.
Mihai Leu died on Tuesday night. He was 56 years old. The former sportsman arrived on June 21 in a very serious condition at Fundeni Hospital in the Capital and was in an induced coma. According to medical sources, he arrived in Fundeni with a helicopter, after he had bleeding again.
On Tuesday evening, close to midnight, the announcement about Mihai Leu's death was made on the Facebook page that is dedicated to him.
“With deep pain, we announce Mihai's non -ending, a real champion, both in the boxing ring and on the motorsport circuits, Mihai was much more than an exceptional athlete, it was a symbol of will, courage and passion.
For fans, Mihai was and will remain a model. A man who inspired by every struggle, every race and the dignity with which he lived his life. For us, for the family, a friend, a wonderful husband and father.
His inheritance goes on through all those who loved him, supported him and witnessed his unique path. We will never forget you. “
A decade of torment for Mihai Leu
For Mihai Leu, a former WBO World Champion, at the Semousy, health problems started in 2014, when he was diagnosed with colon cancer.
Throughout this interval, he suffered several operations, being mounted a kidney stent. Following a complication, when the stent had to be replaced, in November 2024, it was urgently transported from a private hospital to Fundeni. Here it was taken over by the doctor Irinel Popescu.
After a month, Mihai Leu was out of danger, but he had gone through times when it was not known whether he would survive or not.
“It was a complication there … well, I do not like to talk about it, but it all started from a little boy. That is, I have nothing to do. We look before that I have gone over this hop. My chances of living almost did not exist,” said Mihai Leu, asked about his health problems, in an interview.
In May 2025, Leo arrived again at the hospital and was admitted for about 3 weeks due to complications caused by the operation suffered in the autumn of last year. Was discharged in mid -May.
However, the health problems returned to the great athlete, and on June 21 he was again transported to the hospital in critical condition, being placed in induced coma.
Despite the efforts made by doctors, Mihai Leu died on Tuesday evening, after more than a week in Intensive Care.
