An American doctoral student in criminology, suspected of killing four students in a small university city in the northwest of the United States, will soon be guilty, the family of one of the victims announced, according to France Presse.
Bryan Kohberger, 30 years old, was to be tried in August for this quadruple murder committed in November 2022 in the town of Moscow in the state of Idaho. According to ABC, Kohberger, he agreed to be sentenced to four consecutive life sentences and gave up his right to appeal.
The recognition of his guilt, which is to be formalized in a scheduled hearing on Wednesday, will allow him to avoid the death penalty, according to a statement of the family of one of the victims, Kaylee Goncalves, sent by their lawyer.
Everything ends with a secret agreement, accuses the family of a victim
“After more than two years, this is how everything ends, through a secret agreement and a hasty attempt to close the case without the families of the victims have a say on the details of the agreement,” the statement reports.
This crime amazed America: the bodies of Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen – both 21 years old -, Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin – both 20 years old and couple – were discovered stabbed.
All four young people were killed in their sleep, without this waking up two other young people in the house.
The investigation stagnated for almost two months before Bryan Kohberger's arrest.
“We are more than angry in the state of Idaho. They disappointed us,” added Kaylee Goncalves's family on social networks, sharing his anger against the Local Prosecutor's Office.
The relatives of those killed asked for death penalty
The relatives of the young woman demanded the death penalty and supported the adoption of a law promulgated in the spring in Idaho, which stipulates that the death convicts will be executed by an execution platoon.
Two and a half years after the crimes, the accusation has no reason regarding Kohberger, who has kept silence.
He was charged because investigators found his DNA on a knife sheath found at the crime site. A video recording also shows a car similar to its own in the victims' neighborhood when the victims took place.
The student was arrested on December 30, 2022 to his parents in Pennsylvania, over 4,000 kilometers from Moscow. At the time of crimes, he was studying about 15 kilometers from this city, at Washington State University, with the ambition to get a doctorate in criminology.
