After the tragic death of his brother, the Slovenian footballer of German origin Kevin Kampl will leave the German club RB Leipzig on January 17 to return home to Slovenia, writes the British tabloid The Sun.

  • The 35-year-old has made 283 appearances for Leipzig, but the club understand his need to be with his family.

Kampl's brother Seki was just 51 when he died suddenly in October.

His father is also battling a serious illness.

Kampl stated: “Now, as in the last few months, I will focus intensely on my family at home.

I don't want to completely rule out the possibility of returning to the field one day, even if it seems completely unrealistic at the moment, and I want to spend much more time with my loved ones in the future,” he said, thanking the club and the fans.

“His decision to focus his energies exclusively on his family in this situation deserves all respect and once again underlines his impeccable character.

We wish him all the best for the future, lots of strength, and of course we'll give him a fitting farewell. Even after that, RB Leipzig's door will always remain open for Kevin,” said the German club's sporting director, Marcel Schäfer
