The heat waves that included Europe have made the temperatures exceed 40 degrees Celsius in some countries, according to Euronews. Authorities recommend caution, because drought conditions, strong winds and heat waves threaten to cause fires.
As temperatures continue to rise in Europe, multiple fires and extreme heat waves have erupted in different regions of the continent.
A heat wave hit Turkey, where the temperature exceeded 40 degrees Celsius, creating dangerous conditions. The fires broke out in Izmir, Bursa, Tekirday, Sakarya and Adana, causing emergency interventions.
Terrestrial and aerial firefighters were mobilized to combat the flames. In Adana, a fire extinguishing plane crashed while trying to get water from a nearby dam. Search and rescue operations are underway.
In Greece, many inhabitants of Athens were in a hurry to reach the beach, after the first great heat of the year hit the country.
The heat will intensify until Friday, reaching maximum values of 40-41 degrees Celsius inside the country. The heat wave is expected to last until the end of the weekend, when a decrease in temperatures is expected.
Tourists and locals in Spain and Portugal are preparing for the heat this weekend, because the temperatures will rise there. Portugal could record extreme temperatures up to 44 degrees Celsius.
The Portuguese meteorological service has issued a warning for the entire continental territory of Portugal. A yellow code warning was issued for most of the country and orange for some regions inside the country for high temperatures.
Tourists from the capitals of Madrid and Lisbon remained in the shade and drank cold drinks to cope with the heat.
Authorities urged citizens to remain vigilant and avoid activities that could cause additional fires, warning that dry conditions and strong winds could continue to feed the flames.
Unusually high temperatures are also recorded in the UK, thermometers up to over 34 degrees Celsius, according to Sky News.
On Monday, maximum temperatures can exceed 35.6 degrees, above those recorded on the hottest June in 1976.
If the temperature exceeds 35.6 ° C, it will be the hottest start of Wimbledon so far – the world -renowned tennis tournament that starts on Monday.
