The founder of Amazon, Jeff Bezos, and journalist Lauren Sanchez invited, in Venice, dozens of VIPs from cinema, finance and showbusiness for three days of celebrations occasioned by their wedding, Reuters reports, according to Agerpres.

Here are some data and figures about the event nicknamed “the wedding of the century”.

The cost of the wedding

Wedding celebrations for about 200-250 guests would cost between 40 and 48 million euros, as reporters told on Tuesday, Luca Zaia, the president of the Veneto region, which includes Venice.

The Ministry of Tourism of Italy said on Friday that it conducted a study that estimates the total economic impact of the wedding at 957 million euros, including a benefit of 896 million euros resulting from “media exposure”.

The rest would come from the direct or indirect expenses associated with the event, such as 28.4 million euros for hotel expenses and linked to the location and 17.6 million euros for transport expenses and other services.

Locations in Venice

The festivities started on Thursday evening in Madonna Dell'orto, a medieval church in the Central Cannaregio district, which houses masterpieces of the Tintoretto painter from the sixteenth century.

On Friday, the couple was to offer its wedding rings on the small island of San Giorgio, opposite San Marco Square, the music from the event being provided by Matteo Bocelli, the son of Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli.

The main party will take place on Saturday at Arsenale, a former shipyard where ships for the Maritime Empire of the Venetian Republic were built. Several media have announced that Lady Gaga and Elton John will hold shows at the event.

You invite famous

The daughter of US President Donald Trump, Ivanka, and son-in-law Jared Kushner were among the first guests who arrived in Venice on Tuesday.

They were joined by dozens of other important names, including Bill Gates, Orlando Bloom, Tom Brady, the Queen of Jordan, Oprah Winfrey, Kris Jenner and Kim and Khloe Kardashian, as well as Domenico Dolce from Dolce & Gabbana.

Bezos and Sanchez landed in Venice on Wednesday, where they arrived with the helicopter.

The accommodation of the guests

Five of the most luxurious hotels in the city were reserved, including Cipriani, on the island of Giudecca, and St Regis, near San Marco Square.

Bezos and Sanchez stayed in Aman, where the rooms overlooking the big channel cost at least 4,000 euros per night. The same hotel hosted American actor George Clooney on the occasion of his 2014 wedding with lawyer Amal Alamuddin.

Donations

Bezos and Sanchez donated 3 million euros to three Venetian institutions, 1 million euros, reaching Corila, an academic consortium that studies the Lagoon's ecosystem, the local office of UNESCO and the International University of Venice.
