Krasnoyarsk schoolchildren will be able to become young geologists by completing free training at the GEOS Museum

A new academic year has started at the School of Young Geologists at the GEOS Museum of Geology of Central Siberia. A record number of applicants submitted applications for training – 58 people – twice as many as last year.
The educational project has been supported by the gold mining company Polyus for many years.
All interested schoolchildren in grades 4-11 can enroll in the School of Young Geologists. Lessons are held twice a week at the GEOS Museum. Teachers from the Siberian Federal University and employees of the GEOS Museum became guides to the world of the unknown for the children. In classes, students learn the basics of geological science and related disciplines, learn about the historical development of the Earth, the patterns of distribution of mineral deposits in the earth's crust. The children are told how subsoil use arose and how this field of activity can be useful for humanity in the future.
“This year we received a record number of applications: 58 people wanted to study at the School of Young Geologists. Children of different ages are increasingly interested in geology and related sciences, because this is what literally surrounds us every day, and the desire to learn about the world is a basic need,” shared the head of the School of Young Geologists, Mlada Dyakova. “We also see great interest among children in working in the fields, which indicates a possible preference in choosing a future profession.”
Sergei Gorbachev, director for government affairs in the Krasnoyarsk region of the Polyus company, also talks about the growing interest in geology:
“For several years, Polyus has been supporting the School of Young Geologists. During this time, her teachers managed to instill a love of natural sciences and, specifically, geology in several hundred schoolchildren. We are glad that interest in the profession of geologist among young people is growing every year, because today it is especially relevant and in demand – mining begins with geology.”
It is worth noting that training at the School of Young Geologists is not limited to lectures. The guys regularly go on hikes and field trips to understand science not only in theory, but also in practice. During the first weeks of the school's work, its students managed to attend field work at the location of the Ilek Formation of the Early Cretaceous period in the Kozulsky district of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, study the geology of the Cave Log and begin to delve into the geological mysteries of the Universe.
This academic year you still have time to become a student at the School of Young Geologists. You can sign up by calling the museum. Activities for children and visits to the GEOS Museum are absolutely free.
