An Israeli court rejected the request of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Friday to suspend his hearing in the process for corruption, whose annulment was requested by US President Donald Trump, AFP reports.

Netanyahu's lawyer had asked for the postponement of the hearings on Thursday, invoking the “evolutions in the region and the world”, after the 12 -day war with Iran and in the context of the conflict in the Gaza strip.

The head of the Government is “obliged to establish the entire time and all the energy for managing national, diplomatic and security of the greatest importance,” wrote the lawyer Amit Hadad in a request sent to the Court.

A few hours before, the US president had asked for the annulment of the process he had qualified as a “witch hunt”.

This process “should be canceled immediately,” Trump wrote on his Social Truth network.

The judges of the Jerusalem District Court estimated that this request of Netanyahu “does not present, in its current form, a detailed foundation or justification likely to justify the annulment of the hearings.”

In a first file, Benjamin Netanyahu and his wife, Sara, are accused of accepting luxury products worth over 260,000, such as jewelry, champagne and cigars, from some billionaires, in exchange for political favors.

In two other files, Netanyahu is accused of trying to negotiate a more favorable coverage in two Israeli media.
