What George Simion says about entry prohibitions in Moldova and Ukraine. “I intend to pay the first visit to Chisinau”

George Simion said, referring to the prohibitions he has to enter Ukraine and Moldova, that the two countries have every interest in having good relations with Romania, even if he will be elected President of Romania.

Asked how he will discuss, if he will be elected president, with the officials from Kiev and Chisinau, given that persona non grata was declared in the two neighboring states, Simion was confident that they will give up the prohibitions that were imposed.

“Things will be normalized. If not, it is their problem”

“It is in the interest of Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova for the President of Romania to go there and have good relations. I have all the opening and all the love, but if I go, I go not only to Kiev, but also to Cernăuți,” George Simion told Digi24.

The gold leader gave assurances that he intends to maintain a privileged relationship with the Republic of Moldova, if he is elected president of Romania. “I intend to pay the first visit to Chisinau,” said Simion.

Referring to the fact that a court in Chisinau set on May 19, the day after round II, the judgment of his request for the cancellation of the entry prohibition in Moldova, Simion commented that it is a situation similar to that of Liviu Dragnea, who was definitively sentenced to prison, following a decision taken the second day after the election of 2019.

But the president of Gold claims that his choice will not affect the Romanian-Moldovan relationships.

“I think things will be adjusted and normalized. If not, it is their problem. The Republic of Moldova has had an enemy attitude towards Romania through various presidents – Vladimir Voronin, Igor Dodon (…) I am convinced that Maia Sandu wants a good relationship with Bucharest,” said George Simion.

He also invoked the difficult situation of Moldova, which will go through a “great danger” in September, when parliamentary elections are to take place, and the risk that the pro-Russian forces will reach power is a high one.

A long string of prohibitions

In October 2018, George Simion was declared persona non grata in the Republic of Moldova, for a period of 5 years. In June 2022, George Simion was not allowed to enter the Republic of Moldova, trying to go there as part of a delegation of the Romanian Parliament for a common meeting with the Moldovan Parliament. Simion tried to enter the diplomatic passport, although he knew he was banning to enter the Republic of Moldova.

It was not the first time that the gold leader tries to enter the Republic of Moldova using the diplomatic passport of parliamentarian. He did it in 2021, but still without success.

The leader of the Alliance for the Union of Romanians received the first prohibition of entry into the Republic of Moldova in March 2009, in the time of Vladimir Voronin, because he had violated public order. Then he was part of the “Romanian Spirit” initiative group, another time it was presented as the member of the Association “New Golan”, wrote Free Europe.
