Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan and Deputy Prime Minister Dragoș Anastasiu had several working meetings with representatives of the banking sector, during the consultations that the Government takes with the main economic actors.

Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan met on Friday morning with the Romanian Banks Association (ARB), represented by President Bogdan Neacșu. Also today, the prime minister also discussed with the Council of Banking Employers in Romania (CPBB), represented by Mihaela Bîtu. “The meetings took place in the context of preparing a Package of measures for fiscal strengthening And they aimed to exchange opinions on the current economic situation, financial stability and general development prospects.
These discussions are part of a larger series of consultations with institutions and organizations in various fields, through which the government aims to build a set of effective fiscal measures to reduce the budget deficit ”.the Executive informed.
The discussions take place in the context in which the Government intends to impose an additional tax on the profit of the banks, most likely in 2026, as recently stated by Finance Alexandru Nazare.
A few days ago, the Council of Banking Patons in Romania (CPB) announced that “It firmly rejects the intention to introduce another additional tax on the profits obtained by credit institutions ”specifying that he took note “with surprise“About the introduction in the government program of”the measure of taxation of the excessive profit of banks for a limited period ”.
The employers reminded that at the level of the banking system there is already an over -taxation, the credit institutions paying concurrently tax on profit, to which the provisions of Law no. 431/2023 regarding ensuring a minimum global level of taxation of multinational enterprises and large national groups, as well as the additional tax for 2% credit institutions applied to the turnover – introduced at the end of 2023.
