Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum threatened to take legal actions for debris and pollution caused by launches in the US, on the other side of the border, the missiles of the Spacex Elon Musk, AFP reports, taken by Agerpres.
The Mexican government analyzes what international laws are violated to be able to hire the “necessary pursuits”, because “there is actual pollution,” said Claudia Sheinbaum during his morning press conference.
Last week, a Starship rocket of SpaceX exploded on its launch ramp during a shooting test, at the launch site of Elon Musk's space project located in Texas, near the border with Mexico.
A video recording showed the rocket, with a height equal to that of a building of about 40 floors and the strongest ever designed, turning into a gigantic fire ball.
Mexican authorities “review” the impact on the environment of rocket launches for the state (northeast), which is adjacent to Texas, said the Mexican president.
Environmental associations have filed a complaint in 2023 against the American authorities, accusing them of evaluating the impact of these launches, as Spacex's space in Texas is located near protected natural areas.
Despite these criticisms, the American Aviation Regulatory Agency, FAA, gave the beginning of a green wave to an increase in the frequency of starship launches, from 5 to 25 flights annually.
An action in court would be a new confrontation in court between Mexico and a large American company.
In May, Claudia Sheinbaum's government announced criminal prosecution against Google, because it changed the name of Mexico to America's Gulf for Google Maps users in the US, aligning with Donald Trump's decision.
