The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abbas Araghchi, said Iran will consider the US responsible for any Israeli attack on its nuclear installations, after the US press reported that Israel is preparing for an attack, writes AFP.
The information came at a time when Iran and the US will have a new meeting on Friday in Rome, for the fifth round of Oman-mediated discussions on the Tehran's nuclear program.
“We believe that, in the event of any attack on the nuclear installations of the Islamic Republic by the Zionist regime, the US government will be involved and will bear legal responsibility,” Aragchi said in a letter to the United Nations, published on Thursday.
“Iran warns firmly against any adventurism from the Zionist regime and will respond decisively to any threat or illegal act of this regime,” added the head of Iranian diplomacy.
CNN claims in a Tuesday article that Israel is making preparations to attack Iranian nuclear installations.
Discussions on the theme of the Iranian nuclear program, which started on April 12, are the most important contact between the US and Iran after the withdrawal of Washington from the agreement signed between Tehran and more world powers. The agreement was concluded in 2015, and the US withdrawal took place in 2018, in Donald Trump's first term at the White House. Understanding aimed at limiting the nuclear program, in exchange for reducing sanctions.
Israel, the declared enemy of Iran, has threatened to use force against Iranian nuclear installations since the onset of discussions between Tehran and Washington.
The spokesman of the body of the Islamic revolutionary guards (IRGC) in Iran, Ali Mohammad Naini, threatened on Thursday with an “devastating” response in an Israeli attack.
“If the delusional Zionist regime commits a reckless act and launches an attack, it will certainly receive a devastating and decisive response in its small and vulnerable geography,” said Naini, quoted by the ISNA News Agency.
Also on Thursday, several protesters gathered near the Fortow power station, south of Tehran, to express their support for the nuclear activities of the country. The crowd waved Iranian flags and chanted slogans such as “nuclear energy is our inalienable right” and “without compromises, without capitulation, only confrontation with America”.
Iran does not recognize Israel and, in general, calls it the “Zionist regime”, and the two countries wore a shadow war for years. Last year, for the first time, mutual direct attacks took place, for the first time, against the background of increasing regional tensions in the context of the Gaza war.
