Visitors of the famous Versailles Palace in France can now start a conversation with speaking statues instead of listening to a traditional audio guide, as part of a new collaboration with companies in the artificial intelligence sector, the Palace representatives announced.
Versailles has announced a partnership with Openai from the US and with the French start-up ASK Mona to bring a modern note of artificial intelligence to the ebonered palace of the seventeenth century.
Curious visitors can explore the rich history of Versailles by scanning a QR code next to one of the approximately 20 statues in the garden-triggering interactive conversations in French, English or Spanish.
“The Versailles Palace now tests the artificial intelligence, whose extraordinary capabilities will considerably enrich the experience of the visitors,” said the president of the museum, Christophe Leribault.
The Versailles Palace receives about eight million visitors every year, and Openai and ASK Mona believe it is a major opportunity to present its technology in a world-renowned location.
“Whether you are an expert in heritage, museum curator or a visitor who sets foot in the gardens of the Versailles Palace for the first time, there is something for everyone,” said Julie Lavet, the director of European partnerships.
President ASK Mona said that this partnership is an opportunity to highlight the less explored applications of artificial intelligence.
“Often, when we think of artificial intelligence, we think of it in terms of productivity, but here artificial intelligence is, in fact, a lever for curiosity,” said Marion Carre.
