In Russia, alcoholmarkets in residential buildings and near schools may prohibit Russia

State Duma deputies introduced a bill on the ban on the placement of alcoholmarkets in residential buildings and closer than 100 meters from kindergartens, schools, universities, hospitals and sports facilities. This was reported by Vedomosti.

Trading points will fall under the definition of Alcomarket, where the share of revenue from the sale of alcohol exceeds 50 % per quarter. In an explanatory note to the bill, the authors claim that measures will “sharply reduce” alcohol consumption and give prerequisites for the “systemic recovery of citizens”. They refer to the experience of the Vologda region, where similar restrictions allowed to reduce mortality from alcohol by 29 %.

Deputies also plan to introduce a restriction on the visibility of alcohol in stores. In particular, the use of deaf screen or the arrangement of closed areas is proposed.

In the case of the adoption of the law, most alcoholmarkets will need to expand the assortment in order to go to the category of ordinary retail, the co -author of the bill, the deputy head of the State Duma Committee on Inform Policy Andrei Svintsov told reporters.
