A pensioner from Sosnovoborsk gave money to swindlers and became their accomplice

Scammers robbed a 77-year-old resident of Sosnovoborsk of money and tricked her into working for themselves. This was reported by the press service of the regional police.

It all started in mid-November, when the pensioner received a call from an imaginary representative of one of the telecom operators. The elderly woman was informed of the need to redo the contract for servicing a landline telephone, for which she was asked to provide her passport details and cell phone number, which she did.

The next day, a “representative of the military commissariat” contacted the victim, saying that scammers from an unfriendly country had issued a loan to her “by voice.” Later, a false investigator took over the initiative; he scolded the pensioner for helping the scammers, but immediately calmed her down and said that he would help close the loan.

The “lawyer” who called next began asking the interlocutor about her savings. She replied that 250 thousand rubles were kept at home in cash, as well as 260 thousand on deposit. The fraudster intimidated the pensioner, saying that they could come and search her and take her money, so it needs to be “declared.”

“Having trusted the “specialist,” the pensioner handed over the bag of cash to the woman who came to her – there was no reason not to trust the stranger, because she reported the code word “Victory,” which the “lawyer” had warned about. The old woman’s deposit account was empty: the money was safely transferred, this time to an elderly man, all using the same password. She did not communicate with any of the “couriers”, because she was punished that this was prohibited and everything should be confidential,” said law enforcement officers.

The “lawyer” continued to call from time to time, inquired about the victim’s affairs and reminded her that he would contact her when he received instructions from the “investigator.” And the moment had come: this time the woman had to act as a messenger herself – in this way she had to help other people “declare” their savings. The traditional code word, and other people's money was in her hands. Three pensioners managed to “help”.

The last person the misled woman tried to “save” was a 77-year-old resident of Kansk, who gave her 390 thousand rubles. The “lawyer” asked to allow the pensioner to stay overnight with her, saying that he had poor vision and it would be unreasonable to send him home late. The next day, the man had to stay with her again – and again at the direction of the caller.

However, the elderly man played an important role in this kaleidoscope of deception. After transferring the money to a resident of Sosnovoborsk, he himself was asked to “help with the declaration”: he was sent by taxi first to Krasnoyarsk, and then to Zaozerny, where, using a code word, he took the savings from two pensioners and, returning to Sosnovoborsk, handed them over to his colleague in misfortune.

Then she received a request to accompany the pensioner to the bank branch, but the man was unable to control the ATM. At this time, a real local police officer was passing by, and he noticed two elderly people. After listening to them, he explained that all this time they had been acting at the behest of the scammers.

The man’s money was saved, as were the savings of two other victims—about 690 thousand rubles remained in the woman’s bag. However, the main character of this story lost 510 thousand rubles.
