Changing the place of the wedding in Venice

The couple planned to celebrate in Cannaregio, a popular and central district famous for night life, but due to the threat of demonstrations, it was decided to change the place.
For several weeks, local inhabitants and pressure groups objected to the event, fearing that Venice – the city of gondola and palaces – will be transformed into a private amusement park for the rich. They also announced peaceful locks.
After the wedding ceremony, whose place and the exact date remain secret, although it is expected between Thursday and Saturday, around 200-250 invited VIPs from the world of show business, politics and finance will go to the Great Hall in the Arsenal-a huge complex from the 14th century in the Castello in the East Venice.
Surrounded by water and not available from the mainland, when the bridges connecting it are raised, this location is considered safer than the previously planned Scuola Grande della Misericordia in Cannaregio, a former medieval religious school, as Reuters writes.
The arsenal was originally a huge shipyard serving the sea power of the Venice Republic, and today they were transformed into an exhibition space for the artistic event Venice Biennale, as Reuters reminds.

“Great victory”. Activists comment
The decision to marry Venice refers to other celebrity weddings in this city on the water, such as the wedding of actor George Clooney and human rights lawyer, Amal Alamuddin in 2014.
“The news that Bezos is escaping from Misericordia is a great victory for us” – said Tommaso Cacciari, leader of the campaign “No Space for Bezos”, which organizes protests against the event, quoted by Reuters.
The group announced further demonstrations on Saturday on Venetian channels, bridges and narrow streets, declaring that they intend to make this event “a nightmare” for Bezos and his guests.
Luca Zea, the president of the Veneto region, which includes Venice, criticized the protesters, emphasizing that 90 private jets with guests landing at nearby airports will bring local companies revenues of up to EUR 48 million (approx. 55.7 million dollars).
According to the source, the daughter of US President Donald Trump, Ivanka, together with her husband Jared Kushner, who were on vacation in Tuscany, visited the Ferrari luxury factory before marriage on their way to Venice.
