Backstage of the Pope's funeral. Trump talked to the head of the EC

On Saturday, during the funeral of Pope Francis in Rome, there was a short conversation between the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and US president Donald Trump. According to the spokeswoman of the EC Paul Pinho, Leaders agreed that they would meet for more detailed conversations at an indefinite period.

Paul Pinho did not reveal the details of the planned visit or the place of its organization. She only emphasized that it would not happen on Saturday in Rome, where both politicians participated in the funeral ceremony.
The meeting is of particular importance, especially in the context of the lack of direct conversations between the two from the moment when Donald Trump took the office of the President of the United States again. Among the issues of voltage in transatlantic relations, the White House approach to the ongoing war in Ukraine and the decision of the Trump administration on the introduction of duties, which caused dissatisfaction among European partners are mentioned.

The conversation announcing the future meeting can be a signal of the desire to strengthen the dialogue on the Brussels -Washington line, although the exact course of the talks remains only in the sphere of assumptions.
Donald Trump quickly left Rome after the funeral, although it was still to come to the second Saturday meeting with the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelnski. “The schedules of both men were too tense” – said spokesman for Zelnski Serhij Nykyforov quoted by Bloomberg.
After the first meeting, Wołodymyr Zelanski said that the conversation was “good” and added that “he had the potential to become historical if joint results were achieved.”
