Mircea Geoana's brother -in -law, extradited to Romania for the execution of the punishment. Former EXIMBANK President is sentenced to 6 years in prison for bribery

The brother -in -law of Mircea Geoană and president of Eximbank, Ionuț Costea, was extradited to Romania for the execution of the punishment.

According to sources, Mircea Costea Ionuț, internationally followed for committing the offense of bribery, will be brought to Otopeni Airport, at the terminal of Departures.
“The Ministry of Justice announces that during today, June 24 AC, the citizen Ionuț Mircea Costea is to be handed over to the Romanian authorities. The aforementioned Romanian citizen is brought to the national territory by the Romanian Police officers, to be incarcerated in a unit subordinated to the National Penitentiary Administration”the Ministry of Justice said in a statement.
We remind that, in 2023, Ionuț Costea was sentenced to six years in prison for complicity in taking bribes, in a file in which he was sentenced to 7 years and 4 months in prison and former PNL minister, Sebastian Vlădescu. In contrast, the former deputy PDL Cristian Boureanu, also involved, escaped due to the fact that, meanwhile, the prescription intervened. Costea was given international pursuit.
At the same time, the magistrates also ordered the confiscation of 2 million euros and maintaining the seizure for the former director of Eximbank.
Ionuţ Costea is the brother of Mircea Geoană's wife, the politician stating that, after his conviction, they did not keep the connection.
In February, Costea declared before the court in Istanbul that he accepts to be brought to Romania, asking the authorities to accelerate the extradition procedure.
He denied, at that time, the statements that he fled the conviction, stating that he was available to the authorities with a home address and a telephone number, known and communicated. Costea said that once his health is improved, he will be punished.
