Reuters reported shortly afterwards that the Prime Minister of Qatar obtained Tehran's agreement for US fire termination during a telephone conversation with Iranian officials, who took place after Iran's attacks on an US air base on Monday.
The telephone conversation took place after Trump told Qatar's emir that Israel has accepted the cessation of fire and asked for the help of Doha officials to convince Tehran to accept the armistice, the official said.
Prior to his announcement, Trump expressed his gratitude to Qatar's emir in a post and wrote: “Congratulations, the world, it's time for peace!”
The president's announcement came a few hours after Iran launched attacks on American Middle Eastern bases, Trump later qualifying “very weak” attacks.
