The cost of work on your own. More and more young people choose freelancing. With what costs Freedom comes

More and more young people give up jobs with a fixed program and choose to work on their own. Freelancing offers the promise of freedom, but often comes with a hidden price: financial instability and psychological pressure. How much does this choice actually cost?

The cost of work on your own

According to Ionuț Pătrăhău, co-founder of the Seedblink Equity and Investment Platform, it seems that one of the major pitfalls is the illusion of self-sufficiency. “The difference between solo-priests and entrepreneurs or simply employees is given by teamwork. The team enhances the individual qualities. There are no successful SRL that do not involve teams, with or without financial knowledge or business. It is false that successful startups are founded by young people. The most successful are the ones who have already failed several times and had the power to take it over and avoid past mistakes“He explains.

Independence: Between myth and reality

“The apparent freedom offered by freelancing can become a constant source of pressure for young people who choose this road without a stable frame.”explains Ileana Ungureanu, a psychologist within the CSPA – the Center for the Study of Applied Psychology.

In the beginning, independence seems ideal: flexible program, autonomy, freedom of choice. “But the lack of constant income, the absence of social protection and diffuse borders between personal and professional life can quickly lead to anxiety, exhaustion and feeling of isolation. Without support, this “freedom” risks becoming a psychological trap: you seem to have control, but you live in permanent insecurity. And if freelancing is a solution of compromise, not a conscious choice, emotional and financial risks are amplified.

This is why young freelancers need more than autonomy: financial education, professional counseling, real support and attention communities. Authentic independence certainly begins inner, not with the fight on its own ”says Ileana Ungureanu.

Fiscal slit

Iulian Padurariu, former marketing director, business consultant and founder of Pony Car Sharing and Seedblink Equity Crowdfunding confesses that he does not know Examples of long -term success in freelancing. “And please, not to confuse freelancing with the idea of entrepreneurship. Probably some freelancers are entitled solo-premiers to seem entrepreneurs in their heads. The major difference comes from motivation. You build a team around you to finish. he says.

In his opinion, the motivation “to faint taxes” comes from lack of respect for the tax collector. “If you see around that your taxes are managed OK (good hospitals everywhere, good schools, good sidewalks, art, culture, pensions, and so on), then you would be a little ashamed not to participate in this” ok “. When I left Romania, I had only one criterion in choosing my self-testing: what state would treat the taxes I pay. And I had on the short list in 2008 Austria and the Netherlands, two countries at that time quite similar in terms of managing taxes (with a major focus on education and health) but also as GDP values per capita, or level of taxes ”, he continues.

Chose Austria, apparently losing today in front of the Netherlands (who managed to distance himself as GDP per capita by about 10%), as he tells. “I enjoyed for over 15 years of the education and health systems in Austria almost free-obviously, supported by my taxes-, not to say about the quality of life in general, put in many years in all kinds of world tops. Multinational corporation ”says Iulian Pădurariu, who, just visited Bucharest.

“I was in Bucharest yesterday, the city looks as” bombarded “as 20 years ago, progress is marginal for the average man so to speak. The peak, generally with much lower taxes than Austria. This only strengthens my belief that the national sport of fees by “freelancing” appeared due to lack of respect for their manager, respectively the Romanian state. The same Romanian state that tries to be sympathetic through a low level of taxes, but I don't think it's the key here. The Romanian state must prove to us that it knows how to make the lives of Romanians more likely to earn respect for the “sources” of taxes. In the long term unfortunately there is no winner: nor freelancerneither the family restricted, widened, conventional or not, nor the state. And we wake up with fake nail revolutions without knowing where they came from“He concludes.
