The first express road built entirely in Romania, close to completion. “Over 550 people are mobilized”

The first express road made in full in Romania, which connects Craiova to Pitesti, could be open to the traffic throughout its middle of July, with the completion of its last section and the connection node with the A1 motorway.

The first high speed road completed in Romania will be the express road Craiova -Pitesti (DEX12), also known as “Oltenia Expres” or “Ford Highway”. The works on the last section still in the site have reached the end, and on most of the route of over 120 kilometers the drivers can already travel.
Craiova high -speed road – Pitești – Constanța
“We will be able to travel from Craiova to Constanța exclusively on the highway. It is a symbolic and extremely important moment for the national road network”, Sorin Grindeanu recently declared the Minister of Transport.
Currently, according to the Regional Directorate of Roads and Bridges Craiova, over 500 workers are mobilized on the DEX12 yard, especially at the road node with the A1 highway in the Albota area.

The works on the high speed road Pitești – Slatina – Craiova, with a total length of 121 kilometers, started in 2019.
In the summer of 2022, the road traffic Slatina – Robănești, 40 kilometers, was opened, in 2023 the Slatina – Colonești section was inaugurated, 32 kilometers, and in 2024 the Craiova – Robănești sections were opened, 18 kilometers, and the 19 -kilometer section, 19 kilometers.
About 12 kilometers between Albota and Pitești remained unfinished, where the express road will be connected with the A1 highway.
Two other inaugurations expected in 2025
The express road Craiova – Piteşti includes 75 bridges and passages, 26 uneven intersections without access, three maintenance and snow bases, four service spaces and four short -term parking lots.
Also in July, the first kilometers of the DEX4 Turda – Dej express road could be open to road traffic. At Turda there is a five -kilometer section of DEX4 in the site, which will connect the A3 DN1 highway to Tureni. Seven bridges and viaducts are built on this sector. The rest of the route between Turda and Dej, about 70 kilometers, is in the planning stage.
In the final phase of the construction there is also the Dex6 Braila-Galați Road, with a length of 10.76 kilometers, which will include a Hobanat bridge (suspended on cables) over the Siret river, with a length of 307 meters.
Expressly planned roads in Romania
The expressly planned roads in Romania were first introduced in the 2014 General Transport Plan.
In 2022 the first kilometers of express roads included in this plan were completed, which initially targeted the construction of 2,400 kilometers of express roads. Most of the sectors are still under planning.
These include: DEX1-Valahia Express (Găești-Târgoviște-Ploiești), DEX2-Danubius Express (Lugoj-Drobeta-Turnu Severin-Craiova-Alexandria-Bucharest), Dex3-Brașovia Express (Brașov-Pitești), Dex4-Somă- DEX5-Moldavia Express (Bacău-Piatra Neamț), Dex6-Milcovia Express (Brăila-Galați), DEX7-Muntenia Express (Buzău-Brăila), DEX8-Dobrogea Express (Constanța-Tulcea-Brăila), DEX11-Crișana Express (Arad-Chisineu-Criș-Salonta-Oradea) Express (Craiova – Pitești), DEX13 (Bacău – Piatra Neamț), DEX14 (Satu Mare – Oar), DEX15 (Suceava – Siret), DEX16 (Arad – Oradea), DEX17 (Brăila – Focșani), DEX18 (Buzău – Brăila), DEX19 (Craiova – Târgu Jiu Braila).
DEX9 and DEX10 roads do not yet have established routes or available technical documentation.
