An influential American senator appeals to Trump and NATO: “I want our bases no longer in Spain”

Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, a close ally of President Donald Trump, requested on Monday that the “air bases and planes” of the Americans and their allies be moved from Spain, because Madrid does not support the US war against Iran, informs EFE, taken over by Agerpres.
“I want our units and our air bases out of Spain,” said Graham, a Republican from South Carolina, calling on NATO allies to do the same in an exclusive interview with Fox News.
Graham said that all aircraft of his country and US allies “have to get out of Spain” because the authorities in Madrid refused to participate in the battle to “bring down the regime” of Iran.
Last week, US President Donald Trump threatened to sever trade relations with Spain over Madrid's stance on the offensive against Iran and to impose a trade embargo on the country after the Spanish government refused to authorize the use of the Moron and Rota bases in military operations against Tehran.
“Spain has absolutely nothing we need except great people. They have great people, but they lack great leadership,” Trump said last week.
For his part, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez described the operations against Iran as an “extraordinary mistake” that, in his opinion, will have significant consequences.
Spain is home to several facilities used by the United States and NATO as part of their defense architecture in the Mediterranean. These include Rota Naval Base and Moron Air Base, which serve as strategic points for military, logistical and rapid deployment operations for the Alliance in Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
