“I am not satisfied with anything about that war.” Trump announces a new initiative to conclude conflict in Ukraine

The White House leader reported on Sunday that he is ready to call Vladimir Putin, to call the White House on European allies for new discussions and even impose new sanctions to speed up peace negotiations, I write Reuters and BBC.

European leaders will visit the United States on Monday or Tuesday to discuss how to end the Ukraine, Donald Trump said on Sunday.

The US president added that he will discuss “soon” with Russian President Vladimir Putin, also signaling that his administration is ready to move on to the second phase of sanctions against Moscow.

Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski said the sanctions are “a good idea” and urged the European countries to cease the acquisition of energy from Russia.

The new statements come in the context in which Russia has launched the largest air bombardment on Ukraine since the beginning of the war, killing four people and for the first time the main building of the Ukrainian government in Kiev.

Russia has also intensified the attacks on Ukraine since Trump and Putin held a summit in Alaska last month.

After the attack, during which Russia launched at least 810 drones and 13 missiles, Trump said “he is not satisfied with the situation.”

“I am not satisfied with the situation,” Trump said. “I am not satisfied with them. I am not satisfied with anything about that war,” the US president said. “We will solve the problem,” he said.

“Certain European leaders will come to our country on Monday or Tuesday, individually,” Trump said.

But it was not clear to whom Trump was referred to.

New sanctions

In the statement for ABC News, Zelenski said that European partners who continue to buy oil and Russian gases “are not correct”.

He added: “We must stop buying any kind of energy from Russia and, by the way, any agreements with Russia. We cannot have any agreement if we want to stop them.”

Zelenski also welcomed Trump's plans to impose secondary taxes to countries with Russia, in order to prevent Moscow from financing the war.

“I believe that the idea of imposing tariffs that continue to conclude agreements with Russia is correct,” he said.

Russia has sold oil and gas worth about $ 985 billion since the beginning of its large -scale invasion in Ukraine, in March 2022, according to the Center for Research on Energy and Clean Air.

The biggest buyers were China and India. The EU reduced dramatically, but did not completely stop the energy purchases in Russia. In June, Brussels presented plans to cease all purchases by 2027.

“The Russian economy will collapse completely”

Last month, the US imposed 50% rates on goods in India, as a punishment for continuing Russian oil purchases.

The Indian government has stated that it will continue to pursue the “best deal” in terms of oil purchases, in the economic interest of its population.

And at a meeting in Beijing last week, Russia said it would increase gas deliveries to China.

Zelenski's intervention comes in the context in which the Opec+ group of oil producing countries, which includes Russia, has again agreed to increase production, a measure that could generate price drops.

The Secretary of the US Treasury, Scott Bessent, told Meet the Press of NBC that the US is looking for more support from the EU to impose secondary taxes that buy Russian oil.

Bessent said that if the EU countries increase the sanctions and secondary tariffs applied to the countries that buy Russian oil, “the Russian economy will collapse completely, and this will bring President Putin to the negotiation table.”

“We are now in a race between how long the Ukrainian army can resist and how long the Russian economy can resist,” he said.
