Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski on Friday condemned the attempts of Russian forces to advance in the Sumî region, in the context of intensifying Moscow's rhetoric to maximalist requests, writes The Kyiv Independent.

“The Russians had various plans and intentions there – absolutely crazy, as usual. We keep them in place and eliminate these killers, defending the Sumî region,” Zelenski said in his video speech addressed to the nation on Friday night.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said, previously, on Friday, that “all Ukraine” belongs to Russia. Moscow regularly claims that Russians and Ukrainians are “one people.”

Putin mentioned especially sum, saying that “the city of Sumî is the next, the regional center. We do not have the task of conquering the sum, but they do not exclude this possibility.”

The Sumî region of northeast Ukraine is on the border with Russia and is regularly facing Russian bombings, as well as drones and rocket attacks.

“There was a General Staff meeting – a very detailed report on the situation on the front. Particular attention was paid to the Sumî region, to operations in the border areas. I am grateful to our units for their resistance,” Zelenski, in his speech addressed to the nation.

Ukraine continues the efforts of collaboration with its allies to increase investments in the production in the field of defense, said the leader from Kiev.

“This year's support volume is the largest since the beginning of the widow war,” Zelenski noted.

Putin said on Friday that “all Ukraine is ours,” because, in his opinion, the Russians and the Ukrainians are the same people.

“I have said it many times, I think the Russian and Ukrainian peoples are the same people. In this sense, all Ukraine is ours,” said the Russian leader.
