Coffee, unexpected ally for mental health. Researchers say how many cups you should consume daily

Moderate coffee consumption, namely two to three cups a day, could reduce the risk of mental disorders, according to a study cited by Euronews. The beneficial effects appear to be more pronounced in men, the research shows.
Moderate coffee consumption may reduce the risk of mental disorders.
The analysis, published in the Journal of Affective Disorders, included data from more than 460,000 people aged 40 to 69 in the UK Biobank. The participants were monitored for over 13 years, being analyzed both consumption habits – decaffeinated, instant or ground coffee – as well as possible mental health problems that appeared over time.
The results indicate a pattern in the form of “J”, which means that the benefits occur in case of balanced consumption. Both people who drink very little coffee and those who consume too much do not show the same advantage. Moreover, a consumption of five or more cups per day is associated with a higher risk of mental disorders.
The study authors point out that the link between coffee and mood disorders is more evident among men and highlights the growing interest in the impact of diet on mental health.
World Health Organization data shows that more than one billion people worldwide suffer from mental disorders, and conditions such as anxiety and depression are among the leading causes of long-term disability.
Specialists explain that the positive effects of coffee could be related to the bioactive compounds it contains, including caffeine and polyphenols, which have anti-inflammatory properties and influence brain mechanisms involved in regulating mood and stress response.
In this context, researchers draw attention to the importance of a balanced lifestyle and preventive measures, given that mental health problems are increasing globally.
